A birthday and Memorial Day weekend

We had a busy but very fun weekend around here!

Friday was Liam's 8th birthday.

What?!? 8 years old?!?

I cannot believe my baby boy is 8 already. I decided to take off from work on Friday so we could spend the day together. We slept late (or at least I slept late, I think Liam woke up around 7:30!). But we got up and got dressed and were out the door around 11. Our first stop was Tatarus, which is a gymnastics gym. The kids had so much fun running and jumping and swinging and tumbling for an hour. It was the best $21 I have spent for the kids to get to run around and have fun. They were all completely drenched in sweat after an hour and they were getting hungry so we left there and let Liam decide where we went for lunch. He decided on Steak n Shake. Definitely not healthy eating friendly, but oh so good! The kids all ate good and got a milkshake when we were done eating. (Kelsey had an ice cream sundae, which had nuts on it so a melt down may have occurred)

After we ate we went back home to get ready for the next part of our fun birthday day! Thankfully Will left work early and was going to be home around 5 or 6. So I got all our clothes and blankets and food packed up and we surprised the kids when Will got home and told them we were going camping! We made a reservation for one night to camp at Melton Hill Dam. We got everything loaded up and after a stop at the grocery store we headed to the campground.

We had never been camping at a campground before so w weren't really sure what to expect but it was so nice! We set the tent up and then started a fire and cooked hot dogs and the kids had fun with that. Then we ate smores. A camping must! We walked around the campsite for a little bit and then came back to our campsite. Thankfully we were just a little ways away from the bathhouse so we didn't have to go far for bathroom trips. If we were going to stay more than one night it would have been wonderful to have a shower in there. I have only ever camped where there was no bathroom or shower and I always felt so nasty and gross. But I would handle this type of camping for a little while.

We got everyone settled in the tent with Liam, Kelsey, and Taylor on one air mattress and me and Will on another one. Unfortunately it was so so hot and humid that night and the kids had trouble getting settled. They were rolling all over the tent and each other and stripping their clothes off trying to get comfortable. Will ended up having to leave and go feed Tim and Amber's dogs because they were out of town. I let Kelsey get on my mattress and I made Taylor a pallet on the floor to lay on so she didn't have to feel Liam moving around. It took about 30 mins but finally everyone fell asleep. I moved Kelsey back to her mattress with Liam and just about that time Will got back.

Mine and Will's air mattress went flat halfway through the night so we ended up just sleeping on the ground. It was no fun. We remembered that next morning that the last time we used the mattress it went flat too. I guess there is a leak somewhere! Will got up and went to let the dogs out again and while he was gone all the kids woke up. Will got back around 8 or so and we all got out of the tent to eat breakfast. That consisted of pop tarts, donuts, and honeybuns. Then the kids wanted to go to the beach area and swim and play. We got dressed and and went down there and the kids played for so long in the sand and lake. They had so much fun. And I enjoyed just sitting on the side and talking to Will for a while. Around lunchtime (like 11:15 I think) we went back to our campsite to each lunch and pack up. We ate sandwiches and then all the kids helped pack us up and head out.

As we were leaving we stopped to fish for a little bit. I was a bad momma and forgot to put sunscreen on everyone so they had a great time fishing bit got burnt at the same time. Especially Taylor poor girl. No fish were caught but the kids had fun casting their poles out and playing with the worms. Then we went back home and made a quick pit stop to get the weed eater and trash and then headed over to the new house.

Will cleaned up around the driveway and sand pile and other parts of the house with the weed eater and me and the kids just rested and chilled out in the house for a little bit. Grandma came over to see what kind of progress had been made. We left the house and went back home to clean up a bit and head out to eat. We ate a gondolier and enjoyed the time together. Then we left and went to Tim and Amber's to walk the dogs a little and play with them. The kids enjoyed that for sure. Then it was back home for resting again.

Sunday was church and a trip to Lowes for some more lights and an outdoor fan for the porch. We intended to buy some door handles but ended up having to order those online because the kind we liked weren't available in the store. Why does that always happen to us? We had a very restful Sunday afternoon and then went back to church Sunday night for our 5th Sunday night singing. Taylor sang amazing grace and sang a song with Jenna and Isabel. We are always so proud to hear her singing for Jesus.

We went to Cracker Barrel after church to eat with friends and got home later than we expected but it was fun. The kids had a "sleepover" that night and Kelsey slept in Taylor's bed with her. Taylor said it took her a long time to go to sleep because Kelsey kept talking. We didn't think it would be a good idea but they were insistent! Maybe next time she will rethink that!

We slept late again on Monday morning and it was so so nice. But we eventually got up and got going. We went to Knoxville and ate at wasabi at the kids request. None of them eat good there but they always want it. We won't be taking them back anytime soon because they seriously don't eat hardly anything! The purpose of our Knoxville trip was to pick out the rest of our tile. We went to 2 different stores and found what we needed. Thankfully I think we are done picking out tile!

We made a pit stop at our new house to drop off tile and then came back home to rest some more before Will had to leave. He offered to let me go work out while he watched the kids so I took him up on it. While I was gone the kids put bathing suits on and played in the sprinkler and with water balloons. They had so much fun and were probably out there for about 3 hours playing in water. Will left during that time to go back to Georgia. I finally talked the kids into coming back inside and getting a shower. Then it was time for supper and now they are all watching tv and getting ready for bed.

It was such a fun and busy weekend bit we were so so glad to have a free weekend from ball games and cheerleading. The kids have a lot do fun doing those things but we get so exhausted from having something every single night. So this weekend was a nice needed break.
